Premio Ruido Award Website Development: Amplifying Spanish Music Talent

Premio Ruido, established in October 2015, is an annual prize in a single category for the best musical album produced in Spain. Its concept and competition bases bear a strong resemblance to the Mercury Prize, created in 1992, whose main selection criterion is artistic quality and influence. While the Mercury Prize is awarded by the British Association of Record Labels and its nominations are chosen by a mixed panel of musicians, journalists, and music industry figures from the UK and Ireland, Premio Ruido in Spain was established by the Associated Music Journalists (PAM) and its members are primarily involved in the selection.

The Live Club Musical Events in Live S.L. coordinates and produces the annual awards, while The Board of Directors of PAM oversees and validates the voting. In this process, in an initial phase, the members associated with PAM choose their favourite national albums of any style and genre, from all those published that year. This first phase determines twelve nominated albums. A recording is considered national when at least half of the components of the musical formation have nationality and/or permanent residence in Spain. In the second phase, the associates vote for one of all the nominees. The winning artists are awarded a trophy.

At Wozzo, we developed the website for Premio Ruido, complete with a CMS for managing artists and editions. We also incorporated integrations with Spotify to enable listeners to hear the finalists' albums. The site was built using Next.js and Node.js, two powerful and flexible technologies that allowed us to deliver a user-friendly experience while maintaining high performance and seamless integration.
